Katharina started working with children with special needs in 2003. She received a dual Master's degree in Special Education and Childhood Education and worked as a Special Ed teacher throughout NYC. During this time, she noticed her students success was strongly tied to language. Being in the classroom allowed Katharina to understand the child as a whole and a member of the community. This led to a deeper understanding on how to communicate with diverse and challenging populations.
Having worked with children with Apraxia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, PDD-NOS, FAS and Receptive - Expressive language disorders, she applied that knowledge during graduate school. In 2013, she graduated with an MA in Speech Language Pathology.
As an SLP, Katharina moved to California and worked throughout Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey county with populations ranging from 18 months - 94 years old. She evaluated and provided therapy for children and adults with a wide range of speech, language, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders. This was when Katharina and Vimal Shah - an engineer with K12 business and technology experience - had conversations around creating a Speech Therapy service.
With 20 years of experience working in a variety of settings, Katharina created Speech Pedals, a therapy company that would benefit the residents of California and Oregon. Presently, Vimal handles all business / technology aspects of Speech Pedals allowing Katharina to focus on what's really important, the therapy. Katharina is nationally and state certified in the field of Speech Language Pathology.
We are in network with Tricare. If you plan to use insurance, we require a Physician's referral and Authorization before we can evaluate or provide therapy. For out-of-network clients, we can courtesy bill other insurance companies on your behalf. Our session fee is $70 / 30 min session.
Once the form is completed, you will be able to schedule a 30 minute meet and greet with our Speech Therapist. This allows the parent, the child and the therapist to find out if they are a good fit.
